High School and College Scholarship Programs

Where basic elementary education, as we stated above, is not readily available Guatemala secondary education is unusual especially in the rural countryside. The four students in the first picture on the left, shown with Hector Flores (center), the Director of HEDS UP Ministries, and the next two photos are all high school students from very small villages. Last year not one of them was able   to attend school last year because their   parents could not afford to pay for their education.   HEDS UP LOS Niņos scholarships provided the funding for their education in 2006.

Their hopes and dreams of finishing high school depend on many factors but the first is the need for funding of their scholarships in 2007.  Their living-conditions are very difficult because they cannot live at home because the only schools for them to attend are so far away.  It would be easy for them to lose hope for their dreams to come true because all of the odds are against them

But HEDS UP Los Niņos has provided more than money to help them succeed. Pictured above with the students is Hector, our Director of Ministries. Besides making sure the students have a place to eat and sleep, and have the books and supplies they need, he provides weekly bible studies for our students.  He has been able to disciple them and help provide for them the spiritual strength they need to succeed.

 Pictured to the immediate left is Selvyn Chavez the newest member of our team in Guatemala.  Selvyn is a teacher who will be our Director of Educational Programs.  He will be responsible to tutor and help each student to succeed academically.  He will monitor their progress and make recommendations on scholarship candidates.
